    Now rebloggable!

    - Get a sign. A clear identifier of who you are, what your brand is. A banner, a table standee, whatever!

    - Stand at your table if nobody’s coming by. Be approachable! Be able to explain what it is you’re selling in a sentence or two.

    - Have business cards or stickers with…

This is great advice for first-time-tablers, and a great refresher for old-hands. Go give it a read. :)

apparently I couldnt find anything more useful to do at 4 AM so I made this great visual representation of the journey of making a comic, from an idea to its realization (at least, what I’ve observed so far of the process)

That’s perfect. Print this on your wall. Do it all. NEVER GIVE UP.

ahh…yes…….

Yep.

and while I’m spamming this blog

    fyeahgunnerkrigg:

For anybody who got into the fandom recently, last September we had a Gunnerkrigg Fan Week where everybody took the time to make art and pimp out the comic to other people (here’s the tag for it).

I know the fandom’s grown a lot since then, and since this blog has ~570 followers (!!!) I feel like I could ask this here: do we want to do it again next month?

    I won’t forget this year, I swear!

  5. Theme: “A Manga Love Letter”

Whether sent to a lover, a spouse, a friend, or someone else, a love letter is a heart-warming gift no matter what form it comes in. A love letter need not be an actual letter. Express your love visually. Take that moment of sending or receiving a love letter and express it through a silent manga. That is the idea for “A Manga Love Letter”.

Submissions are judged based on the author’s use of a manga artist’s most valuable skill: performance. Please express the selected “one emotion” in a way that is uniquely yours.

No need to come up with a complex story. The important thing is to convey the selected theme to your readers. Visually depict your characters emotions without relying on a backstory and gimmicks. Professionals and amateurs of any gender; all are welcome to apply!

“Dialogue is not to be used in the manga”
The challenge is to use only your talent at visual performance.

    deadline: End of March 2013

I get a lot of people asking me for advice, online and offline, about how to go about starting a comic—especially a webcomic.

Over many rehashings of the same key points, I have finally condensed my advice to ten points:

    1. Just do it.

    2. No, really. Just do it.

    3. But it’s haaaa-NO, JUST DO…

    good advice

Attention video game nerds/artists!!! I’m putting together a zine called Bits in Multiples of 8: An 8bit-64bit Video Game Fan Art Zine which, as you may have guessed, is a zine dedicated to the days when the power of a video game system was judged by how many bits it said it had, and how much excellence could be crammed on a single cartridge! The cover of the zine is going to be hand screenprinted, with grayscale interiors, and will be 5.5x8.5 inches, and will feature piles of pixel-fueled radness from a bunch of high-scoring artists! What I’m looking for is: Original artwork (comics, illustrations, etc.) that is based off of any videogame or videogames that came out for any system between the life of The original Nintendo NES, and the Nintendo 64. This includes games for the Sega Genesis, Super Nintendo, Sony Playstation, Sega Master System, Sega Saturn, Ninendo Gameboy, Sega CD, etc. Basically any 8-bit, 16-bit, 32-bit, or 64-bit system. These pieces can be based on a single specific game or combination of games, your personal reactions/experiences with the games, characters from different games hanging out and partying, whatever you want so long as you have fun with it and make sure to capture the spirit of the originals while putting your own spin on it!I won’t be accepting: Art based on games that came out for systems that don’t fit the theme (Xbox, Playstation 2, Sega Dreamcast, Gamecube, or later), drawings that are too focused on looking exactly like the style of art already created for the game, or exact redrawings of art created for the game or games you choose.  I also won’t be accepting full color submissions, or submissions that are not formatted to fit an 5.5”x8.5” page vertically.Everyone who submits is more than welcome to submit as much art as they like, but just a word of warning, there’s a pretty good chance that everything submitted won’t be able to make it into the zine. I hate to be exclusionary, but I will have to be in this case, but so long as you do something that I dig, it’ll go in the book, no probelmo!
I am accepting both single page submissions (5.5x8.5 inches) and full spreads (8.5x11 inches).  Submissions must be in grayscale. The deadline for submissions is February 28th, so anything sent between now and then will be considered! If you would like to submit, or if you have any questions at all, you can contact me through this tumblr, or you can shoot me an email at jimmyg@jgillustration.com!!! Thanks a ton, and I can’t wait to see what everyone comes up with!!!

…eight more days to submit something? dang how did I only find out about this now ;_;
